  • Anna and Thisal are representing Kinetic in the Western Chances Three Peaks Trek
  • Now in its second year, the trek raises funds for the Western Chances flagship scholarship program supporting youth in Melbourne’s west
  • Both with a love for the outdoors and a passion to support the community, they’re looking forward to the challenge

As Kinetic’s new community partner, Western Chances, embarks on its second annual Three Peaks Trek in April, two new faces will join the troops to help raise funds for youth in Melbourne’s west.

The three-day trek takes hikers across three of Victoria’s most famous peaks, Mt Timbertop, Mt Stirling and Mt Buller, while supporting the organisation’s flagship scholarship program.

After plenty of interest in joining the adventure, two of Kinetic's most passionate and dedicated team members were selected to represent the company on the trek alongside other corporate partners and Western Chances alumni.

Both hailing from Kinetic’s Facilities and Presentation Team, Anna and Thisal were chosen for their enthusiasm for the outdoors, helping others and reflecting this Kinetic spirit in their everyday work.

Each hoping to smash their $3,000 fundraising goal, they will support Western Chances to keep breaking down barriers to education for young people in Melbourne’s west - with up to 1,200 students expected to benefit from the scholarship program this year.

Meet Anna

Anna’s love for the outdoors and sports encouraged her to take on the challenge of the Three Peaks Trek.

“I’ve never done trekking like this before but I love taking on new challenges,” she said.

“Hiking has different kinds of obstacles and requires a different kind of physical strength and I’m really looking forward to overcoming that.”

While she’s driven by the personal challenge of the trek, the opportunity to raise funds for young people and help them overcome the financial barriers to their education is a cause close to Anna’s heart.

“This initiative is important to me because my family has been in that situation before where you want to continue your education but you don’t have enough money,” she said.

“When I was younger, my older sister quit school to support my brother and I through our education because my parents couldn’t afford to send three kids to school.”

Anna said that she knows people who had the ambition and drive to continue their education but faced financial barriers to achieving their dreams.

“We didn’t have an organisation like Western Chances to support us and I can see the great impact their support has,” she said.

“I hope that I can do a small thing like this to support other young people our community.”

Meet Thisal

Putting his hand up for the Three Peaks Trek was a natural move for Thisal whose passion is the outdoors.

“One of my favourite hobbies is going camping and hiking,” he said.

“I used to be a scout leader, and I still love going out into nature when I can. The Three Peaks Trek is my opportunity to do what I love while also supporting the community.”

Thisal is looking forward to meeting the Western Chances alumni who have previously benefitted from the scholarship program.

Having received a helping hand for his son’s education in the past, Thisal is passionate about supporting Western Chances to pay it forward.

“When my family first arrived in Melbourne, my son’s class at school received a set of books from a similar organisation to Western Chances. It was a big help for us financially back then, so I directly know how impactful that support can be for a family,” he said.

“This is an opportunity to go full circle and do my part to help other families.”
