Leading mining and resources bus operator Kinetic has extended its contract with ConocoPhillips for a further five years supporting the success of the company’s operation in Gladstone, Queensland.
Kinetic has provided specialist services for ConocoPhillips under contract since 2019, including personnel transportation between camp, airport and the ferry terminal supporting the company’s Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) operation on Curtis Island.
APLNG is the largest producer of natural gas sourced from coal seams in eastern Australia, supplying Australian customers with natural gas and customers in Asia with liquefied natural gas from its export facility.
Kinetic Executive General Manager – Central Queensland, Marcia Shield, said the contract extension was a reflection on the team’s vast experience in the region.
“This is a sector which is incredibly important to Australia’s economy, but it presents unique and challenging environments for bus operators with the health and wellbeing of personnel absolutely critical to operations,” Ms Shield said.
“We need to maintain collaborative relationships with our clients to deliver the highest standard of service under strict compliance and statutory requirements, and that’s something we are proud to have done with key players for almost two decades.
“Our teams across Mackay, Central Queensland and Gladstone are incredibly experienced and passionate about supporting this sector and we look forward to continuing our partnership with ConocoPhillips.”
Kinetic is the leading provider of workforce transportation services in the mining and resources sector in Australia, operating over 200 buses and 300 team members dedicated to providing tailored passenger transport services.
The company supports the success of large, long-life projects with highly customisable transport services including camp-to-site and on-site shuttles, airport transfers, ad-hoc workforce recreation charters and town to remote site charters.
With established operations and depots in Central Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory and Perth, Kinetic utilises its national operations and driver pool for contingency requirements supporting site shutdown maintenance events.
Kinetic continues to expand its footprint into key regions in the resources sector with a commitment to delivering safe and trusted transport, underpinned by technology advancements.
In 2023 Kinetic welcomed its first zero-emission buses into service in Central Queensland’s resources-rich Bowen Basin region. At the launch Ms Shield said the initiative aligned with the industry-wide commitment to deliver better environmental outcomes.
“Transportation of personnel to remote work sites is an area with immediate opportunity to deliver emissions reductions, although it comes with its inherent and obvious challenges,” she said.
The vehicles are among 250 battery-electric buses Kinetic has introduced across its broader operations in Australia and New Zealand as it progress towards its zero-emission targets. Including its mining and resources operations, Kinetic is Australasia’s largest bus operator with a team of 7400 people and 5000 buses operating from over 100 depots.
Kinetic acknowledges the Port Curtis Coral Coast (PCCC) people the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Taribelang Bunda peoples as the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters in the Gladstone region.
