We’re proud to share that Kinetic in New Zealand has been recognised as a 2025 HRD 5-Star Employer of Choice – a first for the Kinetic Group and a milestone achievement for our Aotearoa team.
The prestigious award, announced by Human Resources Director (HRD), celebrates Australasia’s top employers – those that are not only great places to work, but who also lead the way in delivering an exceptional employee experience. Kinetic was the only bus operator in New Zealand to receive the accolade this year.
With over 4,500 team members across the country, Kinetic is New Zealand’s largest passenger transport operator – and we're committed to putting our people first every step of the way.
“This recognition is a reflection of our collective effort and our ongoing commitment to building a people-first culture,” said Calum Haslop, Managing Director of Kinetic New Zealand. “From fostering inclusion to rewarding long service, we’re focused on creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.”
Women Up Front: Driving inclusion forward
A standout initiative recognised by HRD was the Women Up Front - Trainee Driver Program, our bold new campaign to redress gender imbalance in the transport workforce.
Launched in late 2024 in New Zealand, the program has already welcomed over 100 new female drivers, helping accelerate our goal of achieving gender balance by 2030.
"We know that for many women, bus driving simply isn’t on the radar,” said Nicky Harrison, Director of People, Culture & Safety. “We’re actively changing that – by creating accessible training opportunities, a variety of shifts and ensuring fair, market-aligned pay.”
Kinetic's diversity work in NZ goes beyond gender, too – with growing momentum in LGBTQI+ inclusion and allyship, ensuring all team members feel valued, supported, and safe to be themselves at work.
A culture that listens
In New Zealand, employee feedback isn’t just welcomed – it’s essential. From annual engagement surveys and nationwide Direct 2 You events, to targeted training initiatives and career development opportunities, we’re continually evolving our workplace based on what our people need most.
“Our people are the heart of our business,” added Calum. “This award is for them – and a reminder that we’re on the right path.”
