Tasmania’s leading bus operator, Kinetic, has announced an exciting partnership with the Hobart Chargers basketball team to expand the club’s community outreach programming encouraging grassroots participation in sport.

Underpinning the partnership is a shared commitment to promoting inclusion both on and off the court, with the Hobart Chargers hosting a special Pride round on Friday 3 May at South East Stadium in Sorell. The inaugural event will help celebrate messages of diversity, equality, and love.

Players from the Chargers men’s and women’s team attended a press event promoting the event on Wednesday, alongside one of Kinetic’s ‘Pride buses’ which is proudly wrapped in a rainbow design and the message ‘You are Loved’.

Hobart Chargers Partnerships and Community Manager Andrew Moore said the club had a long-held commitment to inclusion as the only NBL1 club to field both a male and female team. He said the partnership with Kinetic would help strengthen its community programs.

“We want to inspire our communities and leverage our success to create positive change. With Kinetic’s backing we can offer training clinics to local schools allowing us to nurture young talent and promote grassroots participation in sport,” Mr Moore says.

Kinetic General Manager Tasmania Andrew Grzinic congratulated the Chargers for their leadership in bringing communities together by creating opportunities to participate in sport.

“Basketball enjoys tremendous support in Tasmania, and particularly with the JackJumpers winning the NBL championship this year, there’s a groundswell of support for the game,” Mr Grzinic says.

“Sport has always been a vehicle for community connection and together with the Hobart Chargers we recognise the opportunity we have to create positive impact in our local communities.”

“This is something our drivers and broader support team are certainly getting behind and whether it be supporting training clinics for schools or supporting that sense of belonging, we’re completely aligned on creating healthier and more cohesive and connected communities.”

“Big thanks to my team and the club for getting this partnership off the ground. We’re excited about where it will lead to.”

Kinetic’s Pride bus first hit the road in Tasmania one year ago. It is among 12 Kinetic has across Australia and New Zealand as a symbol of inclusion sending a clear message that everyone should feel safe, respected, and welcome in the community.

The Hobart Chargers are Tasmania's premier basketball club, competing in the NBL1 with a renowned feeder program for the National Basketball League (NBL). The Tasmanian JackJumpers, which are the newest professional basketball team in the NBL, won the championship this year.

Across the state, basketball enjoys high participation rates with more than 15,100 Tasmanians playing across more than 51 courts.

Kinetic, which is Australia and New Zealand’s largest bus operator, is a leading bus operator in Tasmania delivering public and school bus services and charter bus services across the state from key locations in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.

Kinetic is also the proud owner and operator of the SkyBus airport express service between Hobart Airport and multiple locations throughout Hobart.
