As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice, you will start your learning working on our diesel fleet. From general maintenance and repair tasks through to major engine component rebuilds.  

Each day will be a little different, and you will work across different vehicle makes and models to keep the learning going. 

Our electric fleet is expanding, and we’re investing in our dedicated employees, introducing an electric vehicle upskill program to help our Kinetic team become trade qualified across both Diesel & Electric Buses

Connecting with other apprentices and workplace mentors is equally important in achieving success in your apprenticeship. Beginning with a National Onboarding Event, you will connect with apprentices across the country and establish links with mentors. All you need to bring is your smile, energy, passion and commitment to creating awesome experiences for our customers, communities, and teammates

FAQs

Do I need to have existing industry experience?

Having some knowledge or awareness of the industry before starting an apprenticeship can help, but it is not required. 

How long does a trade apprenticeship take?

A trade apprenticeship typically takes four years to complete.

Do I need to complete Year 12?

You can start an apprenticeship at Year 10. 

We do consider level of school completion during the application process, however it is not a requirement to have completed Year 12.

What are the working hours for apprentices?

Apprentices typically work standard full-time hours, but the hours will vary for each workshop and depot depending on the bus timetables and shifts.

Do I get paid while I’m training?

Yes, training is part of your employment and the apprenticeship program and is fully paid.
